Is it a good time to buy or sell?
Estate Agents are often asked, and usually answer “YES!”. It’s like asking a sweet shop owner if now is a good time to buy sweets. It is, especially if you sell sweets!
There are general market trends - prices go up after Easter, and peak in autumn. When the market slows, prices often fall slightly. Events alter the pattern, from interest rate rises, to political crises, to local issues like businesses opening or closing.
But most sellers aren’t speculators. Your home is where you eat and sleep. Where you kick off your shoes at the end of the day. It’s where you bring up the kids, and entertain friends. It’s the venue for your life and loves, personal triumphs and private dilemmas. It’s your security, your refuge, your place away from the world. Sure, you can buy a house, but you can’t buy a home - that’s something you make, within the bricks and mortar of the building you live in.
The best time to move isn’t something you can learn from Estate Agents, or the financial pages of the paper, or an accountant or fund manager. Professionals can advise on finance or market trends. But the only people who know whether it’s a good time to move, are you and your family.
