Selling on the cheap could be a costly error
The total cost of rent and rates for our two city offices is around £10,000 per year.
In contrast, we spend around £50,000 on advertising properties. But our biggest spend - three times that amount – is on staff wages.
Next time a ‘bargain bucket’ agency says they are cheap because they have low overheads, tread carefully! The only way to cut costs is to cut back on advertising and staff. If cost-cutting means corner-cutting, a discount agent may be less likely to find the best buyer. Saving £1000 on fees is nothing if you sell your home for £5000 below its potential value.
Worse, a bucketshop agent with a skeleton staff may struggle to offer consistently good service – especially if there are any hiccups or hold-ups that a full service agencies have time to work through.
If you sell you’re most valuable possession on the cheap, you might be lucky… but is it worth the risk?
